Past Projects - The Penner Family 2007
The Home Teams first Home Repair project was for the Penner Family of Port Coquitlam.
In February of 2006 Gord and Kim lost their oldest son Jesse in a violent & tragic incident. Since then, the Penners along with their younger son Cory had been trying to piece their lives back together. They struggled with their grief and with a growing financial burden due to lost wages. Gord and Kim both worked hard for what their family has. They purchased their home just two years ago, shortly before Jesse was killed. They had dreams and plans together with Jesse and Cory to do some much needed repair and upgrading on their home. Jesse's death put that dream on hold.
When we walked around their home there was evidence everywhere of the repairs that were started and then put on pause to attend more pressing needs. Many things required attention.
If you could meet Gord, Kim & Cory you would see that despite their personal loss and their financial hardship, this family is triumphing. They are working hard for changes to the judicial system and are striving to help other families that have suffered the way they have.
With the Home Teams help the Penners can finally focus on these causes and not have to worry about their roof leaking or the house being painted.
On October 22nd the Penner family left their home for the week and was brought back to the reveal of their re-made home on October 28th. It’s certainly been an experience this family will not soon forget.
